City corners, in two-point perspective

Perspective City, by Zach A.
Good ol' two-point perspective. Every art teacher, including this one, has taught her fair share of perspective using a ruler and a pencil! Adobe Illustrator puts a new spin on teaching perspective.
A lot of the tedious stuff is done for you, and all that is left is the FUN! Such was this project, a new one this year, dreamed up by
my colleague, Mr. Joseph.
Students were required to use the Perspective Grid tool to create a city corner scene that contains at least seven buildings. Since students recently learned gradients, they were required to employ gradients to color their buildings, the sky, and the sun/moon.
We also used the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator. Live Trace has its challenges, but comes in perfectly handy when converting corporate logos from pixels to vector art before placing into the perspective grid. Students also learned the 3D Revolve Effect, which allowed them to make street signage, flagpoles, and lamp posts.
Any other fun touches were courtesy of the students' vivid imaginations and fearless approach to this project. This one's a keeper!
