Digital Tessellations, inspired by the work of M.C. Escher
M.C. Escher created his tessellations by hand.
That was a few centuries ago. We created ours in Adobe Illustrator!
Tessellation by Dominic C.
My students started with a 3"x3" square in Adobe Illustrator. By drawing, dividing, rotating, moving, and uniting objects a certain way, they ended up with an interesting shape that served as their puzzle piece. They decorated that puzzle piece in two different color schemes. Then some more duplicating, rotating, and grouping ensued. If the students followed the instructions exactly, they ended up with a 12"x12" TESSELLATION, which is a pattern of shapes that fit together perfectly with no spaces in between, just like a jigsaw puzzle!.
