"Intangible Contents" lidded clay vessels
"INSANITY," by Lia G.

I gave my students a challenge: to choose an abstract noun and create a lidded ceramic clay vessel to represent that word. Abstract nouns are the "intangibles" in life. I supplied a long list of abstract nouns, and gave my students an entire class period to read the list and choose a word that really spoke to them. Then, they had to create a sketch. After watching several videos on making clay boxes and vessels, they got to work. I encouraged an additive decoration method, vs. just a subtractive approach. I also discouraged making just a box, and relying on paint to tell the story later.
What I received blew me away, especially since this was the first year I've done this project. The example to the left is Lia G's representation of the word INSANITY. Below are more examples of fantastic work. |
